Commissioning a survey and pole.
My favourite random poll was comissioned by AXA car insurance. They surveyed 'The most annoying car horns' in an attempt to cheer up their car insurance product.
Boy did it work. AXA managed to get the last story on two television news programmes and in a well deserved fashion they even shot a video to document the array of horn sounds. The worst horn comes from a Fiat Punto, just so you know.
This is a real victory. Yes it sounds boring but to news networks and audiences it means a grabbing headline - something never to forget.
The main objective whilst instigating a survey is not to waste any time and explain immediately who you are and what you're doing on the street in a silly bib.
It will make someones day when asked what horn angers them and they'll take a leaflet and buy your car insurance because you entertained them and stimulated a lasting connotation.
If we can inspire the public, bloggers, previous customers, competitors, new customers, experts, local communities and educational institutions to take part then we have a very strong resource and audience with you at the centre. Who knows it could become an annual poll that people look forward to and desire alongside you as a go to for your market know how.
I should mention at this point that with ajax applications it is easy enough to implement a poll on your site and point people to pages you control. From a poll you can expect to build strong point links, rankings and intrigue.
